About

I figure out why buyers pick you, then build the things that prove it.

I'm David Hoos. I've worked in marketing since 2012, inside companies, at agencies, and now at my own firm. The titles changed. The job mostly didn't.

The story

I started on the service side. For seven years at Canon Press, a publisher, I ran client services and fulfillment. I spent my days answering customers, which turned out to be the best marketing training there is.

Alongside that I ran a small design and marketing studio, Uncommon Creative, for small businesses. Every project started with a questionnaire I wrote: who is this for, and why should they care?

In 2013 I went in-house at Lightcast, a labor-market data company. I brought in marketing automation there and doubled how fast our email list grew. It was my first look at what happens when a system does the work a person used to do by hand.

Then four years as Director of Marketing at The Good, a conversion consultancy. I ran content, SEO, paid, and partnerships, and led a site redesign. Organic traffic grew 500% in a year.

After that I led marketing at Conversmart, where I launched a research report, an email course, and a podcast. Then The Outloud Group, where I started by interviewing customers. The words they used became the playbook, and leads grew by more than half in the first year.

In 2023 I started Haus Advisors to do that work for founder-led agencies. I also host Behind the Agency, a podcast where founders tell me how they actually grew. Along the way I started building AI routines to run the parts of my business that repeat. There are now dozens of them.

What I believe

Your buyer's words beat yours. The best line on your website is usually something a customer already said on a call. My job is to go find it.

Proof beats promise. A result someone can check survives the meeting you're not in. An adjective doesn't.

Strategy is only as good as what ships. A plan in a folder changes nothing. I'd rather build the first version with you and let it run.

Good systems make people more useful, not less. That's how I use AI. It does the repeat work, and a person makes the calls that matter.

How I work

You work with me. No junior team and no handoff after you sign.

I stay neutral. Nobody pays me to recommend their tool or service.

I leave things your team can run. If the work only works while I'm there, I didn't finish it.

I'll tell you if I'm the wrong fit. And I'll point you to someone better if I know one.

Outside of work

I live in Spokane, Washington. My wife is working on her MFA in creative writing and aiming to get published, so that's most of our conversation right now. The rest of my time goes to whatever game my kid invented that week.

Work with me

  • Projects

A defined job with an end date. Positioning, research, a content system, an AI workflow.

  • Advisory

A standing call and a second opinion for a founder or marketing lead.

  • Fractional or full-time

Leading marketing inside a team, part-time or as a hire.

  • Speaking and podcasts

On positioning, buyer research, and AI that does real work.

Email is the front door. Tell me what you're working on and where it's stuck. I'll say quickly whether I'm the right call, and point you somewhere better if I'm not. Run an agency? Start at Haus Advisors.
